Creative Statement

My name is Aisha Amy, I go by Daavillain on my socials as an ode to Cruella de Vil. My work is shaped by my personal journey and evolving relationship with creativity. I began my college career as a psychology major, but over time my interests shifted as I reconnected with creative ambitions I had earlier in life. In middle school, I wanted to be a director and even wrote about it, but that vision faded as practicality and circumstance took over. Attending an all-girls school, graduating during COVID, and leaving the city I was born into created distance between myself and the creative environment I once imagined for my future.

After returning, I made a conscious decision not to feel disconnected from my potential. I initially explored the creative industry through modeling and later styling. While styling became a strong interest, the need for a portfolio led me to create something of my own. In 2023, I founded Jinxx Magazine in a small Baltimore apartment with a friend. Although that partnership eventually ended, I continued the project independently. Since then, Jinxx has produced multiple issues, hosted several events, and organized a community coat drive that donated over 25 coats and winter accessories.

My work focuses on creating physical media that highlights creativity in its early stages. I am interested in uplifting creators while they are still developing and emphasizing the importance of nurturing creative expression before it becomes fully realized.
